In America, there are two holidays that are marked by fireworks: New Year’s Day and Independence Day. The 4th of July is very much known for people prancing about with sparklers and spectacular displays of pyrotechnic prowess.
“The rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, give proof through the night that our flag was still there.” Sound familiar? Of course. Every American knows that line from the Star Spangled Banner. It’s very reminiscent of what happens in every 4th of July – fireworks launching and then exploding in midair in various starbursts of color.
American independence goes further back than that, though. So why did the United States become “free”? What were they freed from? The answer to that is Great Britain. For a significant period of time, America used to be entirely a British colony. The first fourth of July was in the year 1776, when the American Declaration of Independence was issued. At the time, all of the colonies in America (only 13 at that time) officially cut ties with Great Britain. For the first time in its history, America became the land of the free.
Then the rest of history happened, and now the USA has 50 states and is enjoying a lot more freedom than ever. No wonder the country is dubbed the “land of opportunity”. The country offers several ways to start a career, start a business venture, or basically chart one’s own path in nearly any field of interest.
And now, more than ever, there is a lot more freedom to make a living thanks to the internet. People can work even from the comfort of their own homes and earn something decent. Others who are more diligent even manage to make it big through online businesses. The internet has certainly opened up more opportunities and afforded people more independence to run their lives on their terms.
