Writing is a skill that not a lot of people have. Only a select few people are good writers. More so, even fewer people are good creative writers. The practice of creative writing is an art that can be as complicated as painting on a canvas.
Creative writing cannot be done without a good level of mastery of English. Only the most fluent and the most advanced communicators can pull off creative writing effectively. However, it does not mean that those who are not at this level strictly cannot get into the field.
The craft of writing creatively is also a form of self-expression. If anyone prefers to express oneself through words, then creative writing is surely something they can get into. If they aren't that advanced in terms of English proficiency, that's okay. They can still get started with creative writing.
It can take many forms, mainly fiction and nonfiction. Fiction writing involves a lot of the writer’s imagination to create a world that is unique, not to mention the characters that populate it. Fiction can bring out a writer’s best work of creativity. Fiction also is not limited to novels only; it could be short stories anywhere from 300 words to 3,000 words.
Then there’s nonfiction. Creative nonfiction is the kind of writing that can be found in newspapers, magazines, and blogs. With this kind of writing, it’s not about creating a fictional world. Instead, it’s about presenting real-life situations in an engaging, interesting, and sometimes funny way. It’s still an art form with words as the medium.
Then there’s the most advanced form of creative writing of all: poetry. Writing poems is a very complicated endeavor, but it’s quite rewarding afterwards. Poetry is really a test of how skilled a writer is with words. Nearly anyone can write poems, but not everyone can write good poems. Regardless, poetry would be a good exercise in creative writing ability.
