African Djembe Lesson 1
All / History / African History
Hello, everyone. Why are we can't be together? I thought I would send home some videos for you to do some drumming at home. This is called a gem bay, a lot of you will know what that is. It's an African drum. And it's really, really loud. Wow, that was a great sound. Now I know that a lot of you won't have gem bays in your home. However, you can make and make shift drum. It can be made from pretty much anything. You can make it yourself, you could get a box and put a cover over the top it could be made of plastic or it could be made of cardboard or anything. And you could make your own drum that way. Or you could go into the kitchen and borrow one of your mom's pans and a spoon. And you could hit it like that. Drums can be made out of pretty much anything, but please, please, please try and have a go at finding a drum in your home. Have a go. Maybe there's one lurking in the loft you never knew anything about. So go and try and find one and you can do some of these fun activities with me. The first one, we're going to do a song and it's a chant, okay? And it goes like this. That's playing with that paper trim here's that playing a trim. It's K she's playing the drum. Then I could do a solo. Like that. And that's something that you can do too. So next we're going to do one, but I'm not going to say any name. I'm going to say it's playing the drum and it's your turn. Have a solo, have a go. If you play in the middle of the drum, you get a really loud sound. If you play on the outside of the drum. You get a softer sound. If you do this, a slide, you get a nice sort of relaxed sound. Or that's a nice sound too. So try and explore. You can use fingertips. To make sound, lots and lots of different ways. Also, in some of my classes, you might have found, you can make a sound doing this. So there's lots of different sounds you can make with a drum. Try and explore some and do a solo yourself. Who's that? Who's that? Thank you. That's great. It's playing the drum. Your turn. That was an excellent solo. Well done. Now you can always pause me, go back to the beginning of the video, and you can do another solo. And you can get your family involved too. Invite them to come in and join with you. Brothers and sisters and parents, get them involved and have a session, then maybe you could do the call. Who's that playing the drum? And that way you can be in charge. Fantastic. I hope to hear that lots of you have been doing this.
