Lime Juice Tub (Anonymous)
All / History / Australia New Zealand History
This nineteenth century shearing song gets its name from the days of sail, and the long voyages from England to Australia. It was Captain James Cook (1728 - 1779) , the English navigator and explorer who claimed the east coast of Australia in 1770 in the name of George 3rd , who first ordered all his crew to drink a daily dose of lime juice, rich in vitamin C, to prevent scurvy, a common ailment. So the ships were nicknamed “lime juice tubs”. Cello by Natasha Jaffe. For more songs, go to www.thequeenslandtiger.com
